Directions to Mikoko Cove Ecolodge on Funzi Island
Mikoko Cove is located on Funzi Island, approximately 35 km south of Diani and 70km south of Mombasa. We pick up our guests by boat from the town of Bodo on the mainland. Please confirm your expected arrival time with us so that we can ensure our boat is ready to take you to Mikoko Cove.
By Air to Mombasa or Ukunda
The Kenyan coast can be reached by air through Mombasa International Airport for international flights and through Ukunda Airport for flights from Nairobi. Local carriers such as JamboJet, SafariLink, Silverstone Air and Fly540 provide affordable tickets for a quick coastal getaway. Transfers from Mombasa or Ukunda can be arranged upon request.
Taking the new SGR train is another way to reach the coast. From Mariakani one can take public transport down to Funzi as described below or alternatively take a taxi all the way.
From Mombasa, after crossing the channel with the ferry, continue down the main road (A14) in the direction of Tanzania.
After passing the towns of Likoni, Ukunda, Msambweni and Ramisi you will find a big sugar company on your right. You then turn left (opposite the factory) and continue down a 4 km road, until you reach the village of Bodo. In the middle of the village we provide free secured parking and our boat will take you to Mikoko Cove on Funzi Island.
Currently, a road and bridge is under construction which allows those with high clearance vehicles to drive onto the island all the way to Mikoko Cove. During the rains, however, this road may require a 4x4 vehicle. Please contact us for more information about the current condition of the road and specific directions for this option. Arrival by boat is highly recommended however.
From Nairobi, when reaching the town of Samburu on Mombasa Highway you can take a murram bypass going south which leads to the town of Kinango where the C106 continues on through the town of Kwale until you reach the A14, slightly north of Ukunda. From there, take the main road (A14) along the coast going south to Bodo as described in the section above.
